Independent Study in a Degree Program

Yorktown University is organized according to a 48 week academic year and is divided into three 16 week semesters.

Degree Candidates at Yorktown University can choose to enroll in an open-enrollment program of Independent Study (at the student's convenience) or follow a plan of regularly scheduled terms.  Degree Candidates choosing the Independent Study option study independently, with ongoing faculty interaction, and a "rolling" admission schedule and may enter and complete a course at any time.  The Independent Study option for degree candidates allows students to complete coursework in a Degree Program on a schedule other than the Scheduled Terms in which Yorktown University's academic year is organized.

Degree Candidates choosing the Independent Study option must complete four courses annually.  U.S. military personnel are required to complete two courses annually to maintain their Degree Candidacy.

Degree Candidates choosing to enroll during scheduled semesters:

Full-time Degree Candidates are expected to complete 12 credits a semester during two semesters.

Three-quarter time Degree Candidates are expected to complete 9 credits a semester during two semesters.

Half-time Degree Candidates are expected to complete 6 credits during two semesters.
