Roger Cole holds a B.A. in International Studies, an M.A. in English and Slavic Languages, and a Ph.D. from Auburn University in Linguistics and English Language. He has served as Associate Director of the International Language Institute and Director of the Division of Modern Languages and Linguistics at the University of South Florida, where he is currently Professor of Linguistics and Director of the University’s Prague Study Abroad Program. From 1998 to 1999, he was Acting President of Anglo-American College in Prague, Czech Republic.
Dr. Cole has presented conference papers on “Political Correctness or Linguistic Hygiene?”; “Multiculturalism and Multilingualism: Florida’s Educational Challenge”; “Technologically Enhanced Language Learning”; “The Bilingual Brain: A Survey of Some Recent Research Findings”; “An Experimental Investigation of Sex-Linked Language Variation,” and others.
He has served as Director of the Linguistic Institute of the Linguistic Society of America and Director of the University of South Florida-IBM Multimedia Language Instruction Project, and he has been awarded Fulbright Senior Lecturing Grants to the University of Veliko in Turnovo Bulgaria and to the College of Law, Charles University in Prague, Czech Republic.
In addition to his other accomplishments, Dr. Cole has been a forensic linguistics consultant in more than ten court cases.
