Richard Bell, D.Ed. (U.S. Sports Academy, 1999) earned his undergraduate degree from Clemson University with a B.S. in Pre-Medicine. During the war in Vietnam he served in the U.S. Navy where he flew helicopters on search and rescue missions. After active duty in the U.S. Navy he earned the J.D. degree from the University of South Carolina and practiced law for 25 years with an emphasis on trial work. He served two years as an Assistant District Attorney.
Dr. Bell then attended the graduate program in History at The Citadel in Charleston, SC and received a M.A. in History, and then taught part time as an adjunct history professor at a local community college.
Seeking an opportunity to teach full-time at a higher level he earned a Doctor of Education degree in Sport Management from the regionally accredited United States Sports Academy. Upon earning the D.Ed. degree in Sport Management, Dr. Bell began a full time teaching career as the Chairman of the U.S. Sports Academy's Sport Management program in 2000.
Since 2000, Dr. Bell has been a member of the Faculty of Wichita State University (2004-2005) and Mesa State College in Grand Junction, Colorado (2005-present) where he is Director of the Sport Management program.
